Servicing Lenovo equipment: checking the warranty, performing repairs

Good afternoon everyone. Not long ago I needed to contact technical support to solve problems with the software of my laptop. And the question asked of me plunged my nature into a stupor. You will not believe. They asked for some kind of serial number. At that moment I didn’t know how to find out the laptop’s serial number.

Do you know what this is?

Just kidding, of course. I knew everything. But purely theoretically, such a situation could happen to anyone. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare for it. Today we will break this issue down into pieces.

It seems to me that you and I had a lot of theoretical material and our brains became a little sour. Therefore, I would like to suggest playing a little tank game. I have some old school stuff here from the 90s. Write in the comments what level did you reach?

Lenovo Drivers

Each Lenovo laptop, all-in-one or computer requires its own set of drivers. They are software that gives instructions to the device’s hardware on how to work with a particular component. Without drivers, the device will not work sufficiently optimized, and in some cases, some of the components will not function at all.

How to install drivers on Lenovo?

The best option would be to download them from the official Lenovo support site. On the site you can find drivers for your specific device with the latest updates and fixes. We strongly advise against downloading them from any third-party sites, otherwise you will install a virus instead of optimized software. Pay attention to the link in the address bar of your browser. If it looks suspicious, feel free to close the tab. On the official support site everything is quite simple. If you know the product serial number, you will need to enter it in the search field. If not, then there is a step-by-step search where you need to go to the page of your device type, select a series and sub-series. After which you will see a complete list of files available for download. After downloading, you just need to double-click the file like any other application and simply follow the instructions. If you are inexperienced and are afraid of harming your laptop, all-in-one or computer, contact our Lenovo service center for support. Bring your device, or call a technician to your home. We will do the work ourselves correctly and competently.

How to find out the serial number of a laptop through the command line

All operating systems older than seven will be equipped with additional functionality called the WMIC utility.

It allows you to find out the serial number without any problems by performing two consecutive steps.

To open the command line, press the Win + R key combination. A small window called “Run” will appear on the screen. Here you need to enter “cmd” into the editor and click on the “Ok” button.

The above steps will lead to the opening of the command line, where we enter the command “wmic bios get serialnumber”.

Literally in a second we will see a set of numbers that are the serial number. It can be copied from this window.

Second way

The laptop model is indicated on its packaging. If the packaging has been preserved after purchase, you can find it and find out the device model. Even if your laptop was packed in a box without a special design and the model is not written on it, then on one side of the box there should be a sticker with a bar code and serial number, and the information you are looking for should be indicated on it.

Perhaps you considered the box unnecessary and threw it away immediately after purchasing the laptop. But you definitely wouldn’t throw away the warranty card on the first day, which also indicates the model of your laptop. Also, the model of your laptop is indicated on the instructions and on the driver disk, if it is included with your laptop.

How to find the serial number of an HP laptop

A large number of laptops use their own methods. They consist in using the company’s internal capabilities, which are established before the purchase.

You will need to find the software on your device that is responsible for displaying information about your laptop computer.

For example, on HP it is called HP System Event Utility. Other models have utilities with similar names.

This program will be located in the Start menu. After launching the utility, you can easily find the line that is responsible for the serial number.

However, if you uninstalled the software due to inexperience, then this item is not for you. Then you should turn to other methods that I described above.

How to check the battery on a tablet

How to check the battery on a tablet: visual check

The performance of the gadget depends on the battery. It is important to charge the battery on time and not leave the device plugged in after the charge level reaches 100%. But no matter how carefully you treat your equipment, over time the battery deteriorates, ages, discharges more often, and loses capacity.

When working with a tablet, people make mistakes that lead to premature battery wear. This is overheating of the battery, complete discharge of the device without subsequent charging. Do not place the device near heat sources or in direct sunlight - this is practically the main rule in operation.

To check your battery, you can simply look at it. Don’t stare angrily so that it suddenly gets fixed, but evaluate its appearance: a swollen, inflated battery indicates that it’s time to replace it. The test can be done with a multimeter.

It will have to be replaced if it becomes completely discharged in a very short period. For example, Sony owners encounter this problem after about two years of operation. For Windows there is a specially built-in battery diagnostic tool.

If it is impossible to remove the battery (as, for example, in Apple devices), use iBackupBot. In general, there are applications that perform such a check. Usually their names include the word battery.

How to check your balance on your tablet

How to check your balance on your tablet

To check your balance, you need to do the same as for your phone: enter a USSD request or send an SMS. It’s even more convenient to use your personal account on the website or special applications to control your balance. If the phone application is missing, look for the data in the personal account of the operator’s website. The backup option is to move the SIM card into a mobile phone.

Checking balance on different operators:

  • if you use MTS, dial *100#; send an SMS to 111 with the text “11” or call the same number;
  • to find out the balance on Tele2, you can call 611 and press 3 or send the USSD command *105#;
  • The USSD for the Megafon number is the same -*100#, and the number to call is 0501. Do you want to send an SMS? Write anything to 000100;
  • Beeline provides data on the amount of money by command *102# or by number 0697;
  • You can also find out your balance on Yota using *100# or through the application.

Checking the Internet speed

Checking the Internet speed

To determine your Internet speed, download the free Speedtest or Internet Speed Test apps. These programs check the Internet speed on the Android system. A great way to calculate online speed is testing sites 2ip.ua and speedtest.net. There you can find out the type of connection - via a mobile network 3g, 4g or Wi-Fi.

To determine the speed on your iPad, you can download the same speedtest application. You can't check the speed on an iPad using Safari.

How to check your tablet for viruses

Like any gadget, a tablet can from time to time fall under a virus attack and become “sick.” To cure it, of course, you need to use an effective medicine - an antivirus. There is no need to run to the pharmacy, but turning to a PC is just right. If you cannot download the antivirus, try to fix the situation through your computer using the option to check connected devices.

If you can download an antivirus program, choose proven antivirus programs, for example, Kaspersky. Free online device checks are carried out using ESET, Doctor Web, and VirusTotal scanners. They scan the files you want to check against their databases. These databases undergo constant updates.

Why do you need to know the production date of your phone?

The year a smartphone was manufactured affects several aspects that are important to consider when buying and selling used devices.

  • Condition of technical components. The older the phone, the worse and worn out its flash memory is - this will directly affect performance. Also, older smartphones may have a bad camera, a small amount of RAM and an outdated matrix.
  • Android version. Smartphone manufacturers provide a short device support cycle – usually up to 3 years. After this period has expired, updates are no longer installed, which is why not all applications can be launched.
  • Price. Nowadays phones are released onto the market at an inflated price, but in a couple of years their initial cost drops by about half. It is important to take this into account when buying a smartphone secondhand, so as not to overpay.
