Equipment
The tablet is sold in a small cardboard box, which depicts the device itself and describes its technical characteristics. The diameter of the box is slightly larger than the tablet itself. The package is standard and does not contain additional accessories. So, in the box, in addition to the device itself, you can find a power supply, a cable for charging and connecting to a PC, and all the necessary documentation, including instructions and a warranty card, as well as a list of equipment on a separate sheet. The set is standard, as they say, nothing extra.
Contents of delivery
There is nothing unusual in the package - in addition, you will receive documentation and a USB cable that plugs into the charger. If you wish, you can purchase a branded keyboard for your tablet as an additional accessory.
Design
The tablet has a simple design without any special features - everything is simple and concise. But this does not mean that he looks bad, quite the opposite. The main material of the case is matte plastic, it is quite durable. The device comes in two colors, namely white and dark blue.
On the front panel you can see a display with protective glass, above it on the side there is a camera and the company logo. It is by the location of the camera and logo that it becomes clear that the landscape orientation of the tablet is the only correct one. And besides, the ten-inch device is in a different position and is not very convenient to work with.
At the top end there is a headset jack; there is nothing else there. On the left you can find the keys for adjusting the volume and turning off the device; they feel great, have a good response and do not creak. Next to the buttons there is a micro-USB input for connecting charging or synchronizing the gadget with a computer. On the same side there is a hidden slot for a memory card and SIM card; it is hidden under a special plug. There are no connectors on the right side, and only a microphone on the bottom.
The rear panel of the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L is greeted with another company logo in the very middle. The camera module is located at the top center, with two speakers and holes for them on its sides.
The tablet turned out to be large enough for a resolution of 10.1 inches. It could have come out a little smaller if the frames around the display were thinner, but this has the advantage of making the device more comfortable to hold, and there is no risk of false clicks. The case creaks a little, and the back panel is made of soft plastic and bends when you press it, but only by a millimeter. However, it is worth considering that this adds bending strength to the device. For those who prefer a hard back panel, you can buy a case with hard walls.
The tablet weighs just over 500 grams, but it cannot be said that the device is heavy. In addition, the device is quite thin, which makes the gadget more ergonomic. The back panel is susceptible to fingerprints, and if this is not so noticeable in the white version, then the smudges will stand out strongly against a dark blue background. All this suggests once again that it is better to use a case.
Battery and operating time
The device comes with a 7000 mAh battery, which is enough for a tablet with a capacious screen, but not very high processor parameters, since it does not consume much power compared to devices in the high price segment.
On average, the battery life of the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L model is 12 hours - this is a very long indicator for a tablet with this screen size and internal filling. It will easily hold a charge for several days with average use, and charges in 3-4 hours due to the large battery capacity.
Such battery life indicators play in favor of the model, especially considering that most equipment of this kind needs to be charged every day.
Display
Let's continue our review of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10 70L tablet by looking at the display features. The screen of the device has a diagonal of 10.1 inches and a resolution of 1920×1200 with an aspect ratio of 16:10. This resolution is quite enough to get a high-quality picture without obvious pixels. For this price category, the resolution is very good, which, undoubtedly, pleases and raises the device one line higher than competitors in the same price category.
The tablet has an air gap, but this is not such a big minus. This is forgivable for a mid-budget device. Color reproduction is natural, the screen is bright and rich, but the colors are realistic. The manufacturer has calibrated this setting well. The viewing angles are at the highest level, which also means that the display turned out to be excellent.
The tablet has a built-in MiraVision setting that allows you to adjust many screen parameters. This means atypical adjustments to brightness, but also sharpness, color balance, hue, as well as contrast and color saturation.
The display is bright enough for normal outdoor use, but in direct sunlight the quality may be slightly lost. The minimum brightness setting is too high, this leads to the fact that in the dark when using the tablet, the eyes may get tired faster and there is a desire to lower the slider even lower, but this is not possible. You can fix this using third-party applications.
There was no light sensor built in, so all brightness settings must be done manually. However, most users disable it anyway, so we can’t say that this is a big minus.
It is worth noting that it is still unknown what material is used to protect the display. There are opinions that this is protective glass, but sometimes it seems that the front panel is high-quality plastic. It is worth considering that the protective surface resists scratches well, but does not have an oleophobic coating, so fingerprints remain easily. Here it is better to use film.
As a result, we can say that the display turned out to be good and is clearly worthy of its price.
Competitors
If we take into account the rich functionality, good hardware and large screen of the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L, then in its price segment it has practically no competitors with the same set of advantages.
The exception is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, which has good parameters, but it has a noticeably worse screen and a higher price, which does not work in its favor.
Sound
The device has two speakers, which are located at the top of the rear panel and distributed on the sides, which creates stereo or surround sound. The tablet has Dolby ATMOS technology built into it, which is designed to significantly expand the sound stage. We can immediately say that Lenovo managed to achieve this. The sound is loud and clear, bass and low frequencies are felt.
Since the speakers are located at the rear, you may feel that this degrades the sound experience. However, they have plenty of power to spare, which makes up for the lack of location. While holding the tablet, do not cover the sound holes with your hands.
The mentioned Dolby ATMOS program provides deep sound settings and several ready-made quality profiles.
Also a little about using the headset. If you turn on expensive headphones, their potential will be revealed at 100%. As a result, we can say with confidence that the sound of the tablet is at a high level.
Multimedia capabilities
From a review of the screen properties, it becomes clear that the tablet is best suited for multimedia tasks - a bright and beautiful picture will make watching videos and movies fun and comfortable. Since the device has high performance, there will be no problems with downloading streaming video or playing Full HD video.
What can you say about the sound? The tablet has one speaker located on the top of the back of the case, along its entire length. It is made quite interestingly - with small perforations, which are here not just for beauty, but also to improve the sound.
The speaker produces loud, rich and high-quality sound, the only “but” is its placement, due to which you need to either place the tablet backwards towards the user, or have a sound reflector. But this arrangement is quite practical when using the tablet in your hands, when it is placed on your lap - in these situations you will not mute the speaker.
In general, the image and sound in the device are at a decent level, so it will cope well with multimedia tasks. To store files, the tablet has 16 GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 64 GB using an external card.
Cameras
You shouldn't expect anything from cameras in tablets. And in general, few people use them except as a front camera for selfie photos or video calls. But everything in the reviewed tablet is pretty good. So, the main camera is 8 megapixels and has autofocus. In good daylight, the pictures are of acceptable quality, and the color rendition of the surroundings is normal.
But focusing takes quite a long time, and when you get closer, you can see that the detail in the photos is rather weak. If you take photos in poor lighting, the quality drops many times and noise appears.
The Camera application has many useful settings; if you tweak them, the quality of your photos may improve slightly. So, the most interesting setting is the HDR mode. It works quite well and is useful in many situations. However, during such photography, the camera must be stationary. It is also worth noting that there is no flash, which reduces the quality of the photo in the dark. Videos are obtained even in high resolution at 1920×1080, but still the quality is a little lame, and pixelation appears. Despite the shortcomings, the camera also has interesting features, for example, an anti-flicker mode - allows you to shoot video from a monitor or TV screen without running bars.
The front camera is quite standard and is suitable for taking pictures of yourself or using for video calling, but the video quality will not be the highest.
Memory and memory card
The tablet is equipped with 16 GB of internal memory and 2 GB of RAM. If the RAM is sufficient for running applications and background processes, then the internal storage may not be enough. The fact is that it gets clogged very quickly, and in the version of the operating system installed on this tablet, not all applications are transferred to the memory card.
You can expand the storage with a flash drive up to 64 GB, which slightly improves the situation. In addition, there is a version with 32 GB of ROM.
Connection
Wireless modules are presented in the form of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G/LTE. What we can say about Wi-Fi is that it works well and quite quickly, no problems were identified during testing - the connection is instantaneous, and the transfer speed is high. The Wi-Fi module supports all standards that currently exist.
In 3G/LTE mode there are no voice functions, that is, you won’t be able to use the tablet as a phone. However, sending SMS and MMS, as well as working on the Internet, remained. The 3G module also works well and the speed is high.
There are GPS, Glonass and Beidou systems. They all work well with the cards.
When connecting an OTG adapter, you can not only connect a USB flash drive, but even a USB-Ethernet network card for subsequent use of wired Internet. This opportunity is not available everywhere.
Battery life and performance
The tablet uses a 7000 mAh battery. Despite the fact that the filling is quite economical, long-term operation will be ensured. The battery life was tested on PCMark, where the tablet lasted more than 9 hours with above-average brightness and Wi-Fi turned on. When the test was completed, there was still 19% charge left, which is enough for at least an hour under the same high load.
In general, it will take at least 2 days to discharge the tablet with normal use. Charging takes about 4 hours from 0 to 100%. It is recommended to use the supplied cable and power supply, which provide a current of 2A. With other power supplies, charging may take longer. During heavy games, the charging speed decreases significantly, so after 30 minutes of playing, the charging level increased by only 7%.
The “heart” of the tablet is a quad-core MediaTek MT8732 processor with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz. This is a mid-range chipset that is quite power efficient. The video system used is Mali-T760 MP2 - a powerful video accelerator, which, however, in this version has only 2 cores, but can support much more.
RAM 2 GB, of which only half is available to the user. In Antutu, Lenovo Tab 2 A10 70L shows more than 34 thousand points, which is an average result. However, in reality the performance turns out to be higher than the tests show. The interface works smoothly and quickly, all applications open without the slightest delay.
In games, the situation is average in every sense, for example, in the rather demanding game World Of Tanks Blitz, you can comfortably play only on low and medium settings, however, during difficult scenes there may be drops in the frame rate.
In well-optimized games like Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5, everything is quite good, it’s comfortable to play at medium settings, there are no obvious performance losses and no stutters either.
In simple 3D games, such as various runners, performance is at a high level, everything flies as it should. The situation is the same with 2D games; they have no frame drops.
From all this we can conclude that the tablet is, in principle, suitable for games, but playing particularly difficult versions will have problems, you will need to lower the graphics settings.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Tab 2 A10-70 phone
The dimensions of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 are 247 mm wide, 171 mm long and 8.9 mm thick. Men with large hands can easily operate it with one hand, but women with small hands may feel that the device is too big for them. The weight of the device is about 520 grams, this weight is quite noticeable if you hold the phone in one hand; when working with the phone with one hand for a long time, the hand may well get tired.
When looking at the overall ease of use of the phone, there are some issues with it due to the weight or size of the device, but if the other features of the device make up for its shortcomings, then buying this phone is a good choice.
The smartphone is equipped with a 4-core MediaTek MT8732 processor, which is made at 28 nm. technical process.
The smartphone has 2 GB. RAM, which is quite enough. In very rare cases it will not be enough, but with this amount of RAM, you will rarely have problems.
The device's data storage capacity is 16 GB, and while this is enough for photos, it may not be enough for video shooting and a large number of games.
The phone is compatible with SD cards, so you can easily expand its memory. So you probably don't need to worry about storage capacity.
The Tab 2 A10-70 has a display diagonal of 10.1 inches. It's quite big. Photos, videos and games will look great on this screen. It is also suitable for productive use, such as creating a business document.
In terms of quality, the screen may appear pixelated when displaying a picture or video. It should be sufficient for normal use.
The main camera of the phone has 7.99 megapixels, which should be enough in most cases. However, you may be slightly unsatisfied with the quality of the photos.
Also, the smartphone has a 4.92 megapixel front camera, which is average for smartphone cameras. This is good enough for taking selfies, but you may not be satisfied with group photos or their print quality.
The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 battery capacity is 7000 mAh, which is a very large indicator. Compared to other smartphones, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 battery lasts a very long time. With such a capacity, you will be pleasantly surprised by the battery life. Even if you watch videos or play games for a long time, you will not have any problems with the battery.
Software
Out of the box, the tablet comes with the Android 4.4 operating system, but immediately upon launch it can be upgraded to Android 5.0. To do this, you just need to connect to the Internet, after which the tablet itself will offer an update.
Lenovo's proprietary solution, Vibe UI, is used as the shell. At first glance, there are not many differences from the standard version of Android; these are slightly redesigned settings and redundant shortcuts for standard applications.
There are no complaints about the operation of the system. Everything works quickly and smoothly. There are no slowdowns during transitions. The entire set of Android functions works fully and flawlessly.
There are several pre-installed applications, among which there are a couple of special ones:
- SYNCit HD. This software product allows you to backup memory.
- WPS Office. This is an office suite, it includes all the necessary applications for opening and editing documents, creating presentations, and a program for tables and calculations in them.
Operating system and programs
By default, this model is equipped with Android 4.4 with Lenovo Vibe UI shell, but after the first turn on you can upgrade to version 5.0, and this can be done via a Wi-Fi connection.
Programs are used through a standard list in the menu or using desktops, where they are grouped. The notification panel and the most recently enabled applications remain the same, but the settings are displayed in the form of an icon with the name of each section.
In addition to the standard set of applications, which will allow you to get started right away, there is a browser, players, settings, alarm clock, etc., and a synchronization program from the manufacturer has also been added. In it you can create your own “cloud” for storing data, as well as exchanging it between different users.
Another interesting addition is the Dolby Atmos application for detailed sound settings. Overall, the system leaves a pleasant impression - it is well thought out and easy to use, and there are no problems with operation.
Bottom line
Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L is an interesting offer that fully justifies its price. Among the advantages, we can immediately note an excellent high-resolution screen, normal performance for many everyday tasks and support for 3G networks. The most noticeable plus is the excellent sound system, which provides truly high-quality sound, as well as high battery life for a tablet with a 10-inch screen.
However, there are still some downsides. These are insufficient games, frankly weak camera modules and the absence of an oleophobic screen coating.
But a tablet is not a smartphone. In general, the reviewed gadget is clearly worth the money.
Performance
The tablet runs on a MediaTek MT8732 processor with 4 cores and a clock speed of 1.7 GHz. Considering the cost of the device, such indicators are quite acceptable and should ensure fast operation of the model, however, it still depends on the RAM (its volume in our case is 2 GB).
With this set of parameters, the tablet copes with everyday tasks without any problems: loading web pages, running several applications simultaneously, and playing streaming video.
The system works without delays or delays, everything happens smoothly and smoothly. As for games, the situation here is ambiguous - the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L copes with loading them without problems, but if we are talking about applications with powerful graphics, then performance may drop slightly. However, in any advanced game, you can either change the settings to lower ones, or accept less smooth gameplay, but the presence of high-quality graphics.
In general, the performance is quite sufficient for all everyday tasks and for playing games, but if you want the most ideal performance, then you certainly shouldn’t look for it in devices of this price category.
