Review of the Lenovo A6010 Pro (Plus) smartphone. Device characteristics

On the eve of the new year 2021, Lenovo introduced the A6010 Plus model to Russian consumers (in other countries the prefix “Pro” may appear in the name). Currently, you can buy a smartphone from our review from 132 to 260 USD, the average price is about 200 USD. For a reasonable price, the new product has a good combination of performance, discreet design and good cameras. The highlight of the device was its musical focus.

A6010 Pro Specifications

Lenovo launched the A6010 Pro with only one set of specifications. However, there is a similar model - A6010, it has the same appearance and hardware, with the exception of cameras and RAM.

Design

The appearance is simple and has no bright details. There are small roundings along the edges. The back panel is made of plastic. Thanks to its ribbed surface, the smartphone does not slip out of your hands, and fingerprints are almost invisible. At the bottom of the rear panel there are two stereo speakers, at the top there is a main camera with a flash, and in the middle you can see the updated Lenovo logo.

On the side there are power and volume keys. At the top you can see two connectors, a USB cable is connected to one, and headphones are connected to the second. On the front panel at the bottom there are three touch buttons, which, unfortunately, are not backlit. The plastic bezel protrudes slightly above the screen to protect it from scratches. Three color options: white, red and black.

The case thickness is 8.4 mm, width and height are 70.55 and 140.98 mm. With its average dimensions, the mobile device weighs 130 grams.

CPU

The performance power of the A6010 Pro is represented by the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor from Qualcomm. The chip consists of four Cortex A53 cores with a frequency of 1.2 GHz. For graphics processing there is a built-in Adreno 306 video chip.

According to the results of the AnTuTu test, the smartphone scored 23,708 points. In the Geekbench 3 test, the processor earned 509 points for a single-threaded process and 1514 points for a multi-threaded process. The hardware capabilities are sufficient for games. With a resolution of 540p (960×540), the processor processes the image perfectly without delay. If you increase it to 720p (1280x720), you may notice a drop in FPS, especially in resource-intensive games.

Memory

The A6010 Pro has 2 GB of RAM, which is enough to unleash the potential of the processor. Permanent memory – 16 GB, of which a little more than 10 GB is available to the user. Enough to install games and applications. There is a slot for removable media Micro SD.

Autonomous operation

The smartphone has a removable 2300 mAh battery. Its resource is enough for a full working day. If the A6010 Pro is loaded with games, then recharging will be required earlier. In talk mode on a 2G network, the smartphone will last 24 hours, on a 3G network – 12 hours, on a 4G network – 19 hours. The operating time when watching videos can reach 5 hours, as a navigator – 2.5 hours. Charging time from 0 to 100% is about 2 hours.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with two cameras with a resolution of 13 and 5 MP. The main camera takes normal pictures in good lighting conditions. It has fast autofocus and LED flash. Among the functions you can highlight the HDR mode, panoramic shooting, several filters for applying effects at the time of photographing. All photos are taken automatically. You can only adjust ISO, white balance, and sharpness yourself.

Video recording is possible at a maximum resolution of Full HD at 30 frames per second. The camera has software image stabilization, the effect is not 100%, but it minimizes the effects of shaking hands in the pictures.

Display

The device display is made using IPS technology. The matrix is not of the highest quality, but has good viewing angles, although with color distortion. A 5-inch diagonal screen can accommodate 1280x720 pixels. Pixel density – 294 dots per inch. Most modern smartphones already have 1080p resolution, so the A6010 Pro is a bit behind in this regard.

The protective glass is coated with an oleophobic layer to prevent fingerprints from being visible, but marks still appear.

Connection

Support for Wi-Fi standards 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 will not surprise anyone, but the LTE connection present in smartphones is not yet ubiquitous in mobile devices. Naturally, the A6010 Pro works with 2G and 3G. You can insert two MicroSIM cards into it. There is support for GPS and GLONASS.

Sound

A special feature of the A6010 Pro is support for Dolby Atmos technology. In a special application, the sound is adjusted for movies, music, games, or according to parameters entered independently. There is an effect from the sound technology, but on a mobile device it is not as noticeable as in a cinema. In addition, it requires suitable content. On the one hand, Dolby Atmos is an interesting solution for music lovers, on the other hand, it is not fully implemented when listening to music from the Internet. A clear plus is that the speakers produce loud, clear sound without unnecessary interference.

operating system

The smartphone has Android 5.0.2 with Vibe shell installed. A feature of the software shell is that all installed applications are located on desktops. Additional features include the ability to increase the font size of icon labels, as well as change the text contrast. In the separate Mobile application, you can explore and test your smartphone.

Individual features and additional functions

The smartphone has an unusual emergency tsunami and earthquake warning (ETWS) feature. Thanks to this system, the user will receive a text message warning about the disaster within a few seconds, and after a while detailed information will come.

Shell

Lenovo's skin has changed a lot since Android 4.X, but you won't have to contemplate this transformation on the Lenovo A6010, because it comes with Android 5.0.2 out of the box. Due to the fact that Lenovo does not indicate the name of the shell anywhere, few people know that it is called Vibe UI. But even fewer people know why the Vibe UI shell is installed not only on Vibe smartphones, but on all the company’s devices.

The desktop concept will be familiar to anyone who knows which side to start eating an apple from. Instead of normal desktops for the main applications, the entire menu is “spilled” onto the desktop, so the installation of Google Now Launcher pushed even VK into the installation priority.

I liked the curtain. There are many switches and a button for “swiping” all notifications at the very bottom of the screen (namely the screen, the position of the button does not depend on the degree of scrolling of the list of notifications).

There is also a function for scheduled switching on and off of the device (by the way, in the power menu there is an option to turn off the phone and then turn it on in quick mode). I don’t think this option is necessary, since turning it on and off always takes a lot of energy, and deep sleep mode (a built-in feature of the Android kernel, starting with Linux kernel version 3.X) will save more energy when the smartphone is not needed, and at the same time leave you are in touch.

And the last global feature I liked is the built-in Lenovo Companion application, with which you can test all the hardware functions of the smartphone, check for updates, find out about the warranty and repair status (!), and also view device information, including technical information.

conclusions

Lenovo A6010 is a comfortable and responsive smartphone. Perfect for both daily tasks and for watching movies with good sound in a narrow circle. We can note some similarities between the Lenovo A6010 and the Lenovo Vibe Z2, a review of which is available here. If you noticed the shortcomings of the Vibe Z2, then keep in mind that all of them are absent in the Lenovo A6010, and therefore the A6010 can be called an improved version of the Lenovo Vibe Z2 in terms of usability. I recommend this smartphone to those who are looking for a model with a Snapdragon processor (I myself am a supporter of it) and want to get a pretty good feature for little money (about $180), which in this case is the gorgeous sound of external speakers.

Performance testing

In fact, if there should be a difference in the performance of the Galaxy J5 and A6010, it is minimal - they use exactly the same processors. However, this does not always happen like this.

There you have it – the A6010 won in system-wide tests, old and new. The difference is far from devastating, but this cannot in any way be attributed to measurement error. Apparently, different amounts of RAM and different firmware of the devices have an effect.

Even in the SunSpider browser test, the Lenovo smartphone was slightly ahead, although here the dependence on numerous factors should be less.

As for graphics, a simple Nenamark2 test basically showed the parity of the two handsets.

In the more serious 3DMark benchmark, the A6010 is again ahead, but its lead over the Galaxy J5 is very small - it certainly won’t be noticeable to the eye.

The autonomy of the Lenovo A6010, based on our methodology, is slightly worse than that of Samsung. However, this is easy to explain - the latter has a more capacious battery, a less power-hungry Super AMOLED screen and better overall performance optimization, which is why the South Korean phone turned out to be slower in all tests.

In the AnTutu battery test, the difference is twofold and not in favor of the A6010. The battery life of the Lenovo smartphone is below average, according to these results. So what's wrong with our technique? Let's look at the dynamics of battery discharge.

We have never seen anything like this before: how is it that 5 out of 9 tests consume 0% of energy, and then a 2D game, a task of average “gluttony”, immediately consumed 15%? There is only one answer - the charge consumption indication does not work correctly. The smartphone actually reports 100% charge for a long time, and then drops sharply to 75-80%. Our method is based on the remaining charge after completing all tasks, while AnTutu runs all tests until the battery drains to 19%, so in this case its sample is more representative.

In summary, two disappointing conclusions can be drawn regarding the autonomy of the Lenovo A6010: the battery charge indication is not always correct and the phone cannot boast of a long operating time. As for its performance, there are no complaints here - the device squeezes the maximum out of the processor.
