How to reboot your Lenovo phone if it's frozen: tips and tricks

Lenovo a319, s60, s960, s860 and others sometimes freeze on the splash screen, when turned on on the logo and while launching applications.

There are several reasons, but most often the fault lies in the software (firmware), memory and applications installed on the phone.

If there is not enough computing power, then a “trap is provided” - lenovo hangs or reboots

The manufacturer says that stable operation requires 700 MB of free space in the main (system) memory.

It is also necessary to monitor the number of installed applications, update them on a regular basis and, if possible, transfer them to an SD card.

What is Safe Mode?

Before learning about ways to disable Safe Mode, it’s worth learning more about what it is.

Safe mode is a state of the device in which only system applications are running. This helps in cases where there is a problem with performance or autonomy. But if you don’t have such problems, then this feature will only hinder you, because it disables the functionality of all downloaded applications and even hides their icons.

In general, this option is used to remove unnecessary programs. Let's say you have a lot of garbage that slows down your smartphone's system so much that you simply cannot clean it. Then you just need to enable safe mode and delete everything unnecessary. But the main problem is not to enter, because the Lenovo phone enters safe mode very easily, but to return everything back.

Restoring factory settings if your Lenovo phone freezes

As a last resort, you can use a phone reset. Before you do this, please note the following points:

Resetting will delete all phone data and media files. They will be lost and will not be restored unless previously synced or backed up.

Therefore, you should back up all important data and files. Also make sure that the battery level is at least 35%, or the phone is connected to a charger.

Make sure you don't forget your Google username and password. They will be needed to unlock your phone after a factory reset.

Phones running Android 5 or higher may have security enabled, which means that after the reset, you'll need to sign in with the same Google account you previously used.

Keyboard shortcut

If the device does not have such a hole, do not be upset. The operating system has a built-in hard reset feature that launches the system menu. This function is performed by a combination of the volume and power buttons.

Which combination will work can be understood experimentally:

  1. Volume up and power key.
  2. Volume down and turn on.
  3. Home key and volume (up/down).
  4. Simultaneously holding down the volume (plus and minus).

Next, a download icon and a number will appear on the screen in the corner of the screen. The menu will then launch.

To begin, select the first item. This is a standard reboot and does not delete data. If it doesn’t work, repeat the press and, being in the menu, follow the instructions. Use sound (plus/minus) to select:

  • "Wipe data" column;
  • then "Factory";
  • after "Reset".

Updating installed applications

The cause of mobile device freezes may be incompatible or outdated applications installed on the system.

The release of new software versions is associated with eliminating identified problems and optimizing its operation, so it is recommended to update installed programs in a timely manner. To complete the procedure, you must:

  • Launch Play Market.
  • Click the three horizontal bars at the top left of the screen. In the list that opens, select “My applications and games.”
  • The system will check which programs require an update and provide a list of them. You should click the “Update All” button.

  • Wait for the download and installation of programs to complete. Reboot the device.
  • In order for future updates to occur automatically, you must activate the corresponding Play Market settings item.

    Clearing memory

According to the developers, for the normal functioning of the operating system, at least 700 MB of free space on the internal drive is required. Let's figure out what to do if Lenovo freezes due to lack of memory:

    • Open the settings of your mobile device and go to the “Applications” section.
    • By default, the Third Party tab opens. Programs from this list are installed by the user and in most cases can be moved to a memory card.
    • Choose an application that takes up a lot of space. In the window that opens, click on the “Transfer to built-in memory” button. If the key is not active, then transfer is not possible.
    • Wait for the process to complete and repeat the procedure with other programs. It is important to transfer as much software as possible to an external drive. The information bar located at the bottom of the screen with a list of installed programs will indicate the amount of free memory.

    Startup problems

The following method is relevant for such a problem - the smartphone freezes when turned on. This manifests itself in the form of a loading screen that doesn’t disappear for too long. Usually you can turn off the device by simply holding down the corresponding button. You can resolve the situation like this:

    1. Put your smartphone on charge in order to eliminate the problem of sudden shutdown due to a dead battery.
    2. Call up the Recovery menu in the following way: with the device turned off, hold down the power and volume up buttons until it vibrates.
    3. After a couple of seconds, the menu required to reboot will appear on the display. You must select the “Reboot system now” item. Within a couple of minutes, the smartphone should fully boot into normal mode.

If there are no serious failures in the system, then rebooting using Recovery will be quick and safe. However, you can also encounter a complete failure of the operating system. The problem can be resolved, but you will have to sacrifice files located in the internal memory (everything saved on the MicroSD will remain in its place).

So, if the phone is stuck on the screensaver when turned on, then restoring to factory settings will help resolve the situation. This can be done following the instructions for accessing Recovery, noted above, but in the menu you should select the “Wipe data/factory reset” item. Since Recovery may differ from one manufacturer to another, recovery may be hidden behind the “Wipe data” or “Advanced wipe” items. After a couple of minutes, the gadget will turn on and offer system settings, which users usually perform after purchase. If such drastic methods do not work, the only way out is to visit a service center.

    Firmware update

Each phone has its own firmware version, which may contain a number of bugs and problems. This affects the stability of the device and can lead to malfunctions of the operating system. For this reason, developers release updates designed to correct existing software shortcomings. The user is only required to install them by performing simple steps.

Let's look at what to do to update the system if Lenovo is frozen:

    • Open the settings of your mobile device and go to the “About device” section.
    • Select "System Update".
    • In the window that opens, click on the “Check for updates” line. The system will search for new software and, if available, offer to download.
    • Click on the “Download” item. After downloading, the line “Restart and install” will appear. Select it and do not touch the device until the system restarts. Please note that it is better to download updates via Wi-Fi.
