Lenovo X3 Lite (A7010) smartphone review: simplified version of the flagship

Design

Externally, Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite is a standard smartphone, without any special differences from its counterparts. The volume and power buttons are on the right side, the microUSB connector is on the bottom, and the headphone output is on the top.

I was pleasantly pleased with the soft touch on the rear panel - the white version that we tested looks stylish, and does not get dirty, scratch, or slip out of your hands.

The cover is removable, under it there is a battery, a slot for a microSD memory card and two slots for SIM cards.

The buttons here are touch sensitive, located under the screen. Whether this is more convenient than on-screen interface buttons is a matter of taste, but the fact that they are not highlighted here is a failure. In daylight this is not so important, but in slightly darker conditions you simply will not find them - they are completely invisible even with the minimum screen brightness.

On the back of the Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite, in addition to the already familiar camera eye, flash and noise reduction microphone, there is a fingerprint scanner. Conveniently, it reads the fingerprint in both vertical and horizontal positions of the smartphone. The speed and accuracy of operation is not the same as that of flagships, but much better than you expect from an inexpensive device.

Lenovo A7010

Zyazikov Durten, 06/19/2018

Advantages: +Price. With such characteristics, which I will not list, the price is 13,000 rubles. (October 7, 2016) looks acceptable compared to other brands and models.

+Stereo speakers with Dolby ATMOS. They sound quite good! Impressions from the sound of the speakers are only positive. Not that this is a necessity, but a nice feature. I don’t listen to music on them, but sometimes it’s a joy to watch a video on YouTube.

+The sound in the headphones is a separate plus. The phone has quite a few codecs and amplifiers. You can feel it by installing a player that reveals the potential of audio gadgets, for example, Poweramp.

+The screen is good. It’s not great, but it satisfies with resolution, brightness, viewing angles, color rendition, and is generally pleasant.

+The front camera is great.

+LED indicator for missed calls and messages - just familiar and convenient.

+ Quite a strict and thoughtful design without frills with good side frames, not for everyone.

+OTG

+Remarkable assembly and quite good materials, it even looks more expensive.

+Fast charging. Even when you watch videos on YouTube via a mobile network while charging, the charge proceeds at an excellent pace and does not get particularly hot.

+A bunch of different covers/bumpers/glasses for Ali, for every taste and color.

Disadvantages: -Low battery capacity. With moderate use, connected to the Internet in Wi-Fi modem mode, the charge melts in a matter of hours. In addition, the battery is not removable.

-The main camera was disappointing. From 13 megapixels and with the rest of the phone's characteristics, I expected more. In fact, it doesn’t matter to me; I’ve never chosen a phone based on its camera. But who cares.

-No backlighting of touch keys. This causes me great inconvenience and I’m unlikely to get used to it, just as I didn’t get used to it on the Lenovo A850.

-4G LTE is not forced, only auto mode 4/3/2G. It’s sad when even the Huawei Honor 5a (cheaper) has this option.

Comment: I spent a long time choosing a 4G phone. I didn’t agree to models with a combined flash drive slot, which many manufacturers so diligently push. In this phone I found everything I was looking for, namely: 5.5″ screen, 1080p screen resolution, 32GB of memory + slot, 2GB of RAM, good processor, latest Android and a more or less reliable brand. This device served as a replacement for my tortured, non-PCT Lenovo A850, which served me for more than two years, but I abused it to such an extent that it became completely bad. And the stereo speakers, NFC, and fingerprint scanner were a nice bonus for this price, although I don’t use all of these functions yet. Everything is as familiar as in the Lenovo A850, only many times better, more modern, more productive and of higher quality. It’s a pity, of course, that there is no backlighting of the buttons and it’s not forced to install 4G. But in general, emotions and sober impressions of the phone are only positive. I have already ordered a case and glass from Ali, my eyes were wide open from the assortment.

Display

Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite has a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The pixel density is 401 ppi, the maximum brightness is 353 cd/m², the minimum is 17, the measured contrast is 1 in 1026. The picture looks very detailed and clear, and even upon close examination you will not be able to see individual pixels.

In terms of color rendering and gamma, the smartphone is of high quality, except that at maximum brightness the colors are a little overexposed and fade. If you like warmer shades or, on the contrary, cooler shades, in Vibe X3 Lite you can choose a color display scheme in the screen settings.

When changing viewing angles, the picture remains rich and contrasting and the text is easy to read. Therefore, watch what you read on the subway - a neighbor can easily spy on it. In the sun and indoors, the brightness is enough to see the image clearly. But the minimum brightness is a bit high, so be sure to use the night mode - it helps a lot to read the smartphone screen in the dark.

Vibe X3 Lite is positioned as a multimedia smartphone - a large Full HD display is complemented by two front 1.5 W stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos technology. The correct placement of the speakers really creates a stereo effect when watching movies, but it lacks low frequencies, so you'll have to limit yourself to movies - there's not enough bass for music. True, the smartphone perfectly compensates for its quality with quantity - the speakers are extremely loud, so you will hear a call even if the smartphone is in your bag.

Peculiarities

Among the features, we can note the presence of two loud speakers with stereo sound directed towards the user, and not away from him. Here you can add support for Dolby Atmos technology, which has a positive effect on sound quality.

The smartphone also has a fingerprint scanner, which can be praised for its fairly high response speed and very accurate fingerprint detection. A high percentage of recognition is observed even if the finger, say, is sweating.

And I would like to include Full HD resolution as a feature in reproach to Samsung smartphones.

Cameras

The main camera of the Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite with a 13 megapixel sensor takes good pictures in the daytime or with the flash, which is very powerful here. I don’t recommend shooting in the dark without a flash - the optics and sensor are not the brightest, and there is no stabilization system, so you will get a blurry picture with a lot of noise. So when shooting at night, I recommend thinking about a tripod or some kind of support.

The camera interface is minimalistic, but there are all the basic settings to get the most out of the camera. Of the special shooting modes, only panorama is preset.

Video is recorded in Full HD format, without any additional settings.

“Photographers on the run” will appreciate the smart function of quickly launching the camera by double-pressing the volume key. In 2 seconds, the camera turns on and immediately takes a photo, so you have time to catch birds in flight or a particularly funny cat sitting on your neighbor’s windowsill.

The front camera of the Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite is listed as five-megapixel, but the quality of the images hints that it is more likely a two-megapixel module, software interpolated to five - the face turns out to be quite blurry. But when photographing in the dark, it can easily compete with others thanks to its backlight function. This way, more light falls on the face and the photo turns out clearer, and unlike a flash, the light is soft and diffused, so it doesn’t hurt the eyes or make the face look flat, but neatly reveals the light-shadow pattern.

Performance

The Vibe X3 Lite's hardware is average - the MediaTek MT6753 with 2 GB of RAM does not pretend to be ultra-fast. In games, the situation turned out to be sad - Asfalt 8 at maximum graphics settings showed comics instead of normal video motion. There’s no need to even talk about the graphics details. So if you plan to play on this smartphone, then moderate your gaming fervor to Clash of clans or Angry birds.

The smartphone copes with everyday tasks without panic, loading applications quite smoothly and quickly. You can switch between them if you do not turn on the power saving mode - several applications are stored in the cache without unloading, so you can even continue a stopped game.

The Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite has 32 GB of built-in memory; a microSD memory card can be installed if desired.

Software

Out of the box, the Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop and Lenovo's proprietary shell with a number of pre-installed applications - an antivirus, an audio player and a couple of games. The system works great, even though the processor here is not the most powerful. Work screens scroll smoothly, applications launch quickly, and switching between them is easy. In this regard, working with a smartphone fully meets expectations for this price.

The fingerprint scanner works quite quickly and correctly. In addition to the function of unlocking the smartphone, several useful functions were added to the scanner - take a photo, instantly launch the camera, and so on.

Autonomy

The smartphone is powered by a 3300 mAh battery. With such characteristics, this is enough for one and a half to two days of work, or 15 hours of constant work - very good indicators for a modern smartphone.

There is a power saving system that reduces the load on the processor, clears the cache and optimizes energy costs for the display backlight.

ITC.UA rating

Pros: Fingerprint scanner; Full HD screen; front stereo speakers; quick camera launch; pleasant soft-touch coating on the rear panel

Cons: Poor performance, especially in games; front camera quality

Conclusion: For the money, Lenovo Vibe X3 Lite does not look very confident. As a lightweight version of a flagship, the smartphone is rather weak, but as a stand-alone budget smartphone it is very good thanks to its large, high-quality screen, fingerprint scanner and good battery life. Poor gaming performance and a less-than-impressive front camera make it less attractive to young people, who are the target audience for this smartphone. It has strong opponents in the form of last year's LG G4s or Samsung A5, which are also in the mid-price category, but offer better performance and design.

Our review of the Lenovo X3 Lite smartphone

Based on the review, this begs the question: what is the user paying $240 for? The device has many competitors in this price category among the Chinese; there are even better options (but it’s not a fact that they will be easy to buy). And if we consider the Lenovo X3 Lite (A7010) as an independent device, yes, it deserves attention. The battery is decent, the sound is great, the screen is in order, the camera is quite tolerable for an undemanding user. Other characteristics were more or less adequate, but they might not have saved on backlighting the front touch buttons, and a more powerful processor could have been installed.
